Summary:
For project management professionals who lead and direct project teams and deliver results within the constraints of schedule, budget and resources. You must have substantial experience in project management to be eligible to earn this certification.
Initial Requirements:
You must meet education and experience requirements and then pass the PMP exam.
To apply for the PMP, you need to either: hold a four-year degree (bachelor’s or the global equivalent) and have at least three years of project management experience, with 4,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education. OR hold a secondary diploma (high school or the global equivalent) and have at least five years of project management experience, with 7,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education.
You must then pass the PMP exam ($555 for non-PMI members/ $405 PMI members). The exam has a 4-hour time limit and consists of 200 questions, 175 of which count toward your final score. Questions are drawn from an examination specification created by PMI.
Continuing Requirements:
You must complete at least 60 professional development units every 3 years and pay a renewal fee ($150 non-PMI members/ $60 PMI members).
