For individuals who have development experience and design applications for the BlackBerry solution. This certification requires understanding of Java technologies and the basic concepts involved in mobile application development for BlackBerry. BlackBerry Certified Application Developer exams retired on Oct. 31, 2011 and the certification expired as of Feb. 29, 2012.

Initial Requirements:
This certification is no longer available, but when it was, the requirements were:
You must pass 2 exams: Developing Applications for the Blackberry Solution, and Developing Java Applications for the BlackBerry Platform. Exams are $150 each.

Continuing Requirements:
BlackBerry certification re-certification requirements are tied to new product releases and product retirement schedules. When an exam retires, it can no longer be used to earn a certification, but individuals who already hold the certification continue to have valid certifications until the exam moves into the expiration phase. Typically, an upgrade exam will be available during this time. Sometime after retirement, an exam will expire, and individuals who hold the certification and have not updated will no longer be considered certified. BlackBerry will notify you via email if an exam related to your certification retires or expires.
